Hello fellow humans and/or androids, welcome to my very own blog, Game Duck.
First a little bit about myself, if that's alright. I'm Aidan, an aspiring video game designer, currently in my 3rd year of studies in Game Design. I hail from Scotland, and yes our national animal is a unicorn and no, I do not wear kilts but on the occasion I may opt for a skirt. Generally, I am a bit of a Playstaion fanboy, don't flame me for not understanding the recent GDC (Game Developer's Conference) style presentation with Mark Cerny detailing the fine-tech of the PS5. I play primarily on the PS4 and occasionally on PC, so this will be where the meat of most of my posts come from.
Speaking of posts. This is a video game orientated blog, in case you failed to guess. My hope is to discuss game design in a fun, accessible manner without going into too much jargon.
How am I looking to do this? I will be writing (and possibly even recording myself in some instances) about the design of a game in a review format.
Will all posts be specifically about design? No, I'd like to spread my wings a little. I may post my thoughts on upcoming titles, topical news in the game community or even just reviewing a game like everyone else does. I may even push in the direction of tv and film if the demand is there.
Will I be reviewing newly released titles? My answer would be hopefully but not all the time. I have other commitments, one of them being finances (avoid the donations tab, eh?). I will try to review new games when possible but I can't make any guarantees, however I will be looking into obtaining review copies if possible). I do like to replay games or play a game from 2017 I hadn't gotten round to, and I may want to post about that too. Every post will be a surprise I guess?
Obviously I cannot finish without mentioning the current global pandemic that is COVID-19. I'd like to remind people to take note of the advice being given and to stay safe and protect not just you and your family but help nullify the spreading of the disease to vulnerable people. Most of us have never experienced such a situation and patience will most crucially be a great trait to have going into the unknown. Hopefully my ramblings on video games can help bring you a moment of tranquility and humour. And what better way to start than with a review of Doom: Eternal. I am hoping the review will be ready by the end of the week.
Thanks, Aidan.
